Philips Hue is a home lighting system connected to the Internet and very easy to install: just connect the bridge to your router and the electricity with the cables included in the package, download the free Philips Hue app on your iPhone or Android phone and screw the light bulbs, LED lamps and chandeliers in your home.

The bridge is like a small router to which the light bulbs connect and from which the commands you send via the app of your smartphone are decrypted. Once you have joined all the elements, just press the single button on the bridge to start the system’s Internet connection. Without the bridge, the Philips Hue bulbs are standard LED bulbs, which work by pushing the switch on the wall and enough, while consuming 80% of electricity in less than a standard light bulb (can last up to 5 years). Thanks to the bridge that you have connected to the Internet, you can control the lighting effects from your smartphone: set light alarms, notifications, and timers adjust light intensity and even color.

To start with Philips Hue, you need a Philips hue starter kit that includes the bridge necessary to connect the light bulbs to the Internet: the Starter Kit with colored lights. It contains three light bulbs whose colors can vary between 80 shades from cold white to all the colors of the spectrum (and as we will see, the beauty of Philips Hue are just the colors).

At any time, you can purchase new Philips Hue individual light bulbs and add up to 50 items to the system. In addition to the classic LED bulbs, there is a whole range of Philips Hue lighting products: colored lamps, chandeliers, decorative light strips.

Place the lights to turn on when you get home and turn off when you leave

If you do not like to enter the house in pitch darkness, you can ask Philips Hue to turn on the lights when you get home. For it to work, however, you must always have the location services activated on your mobile phone.

When you’re at home, go to the Geo-fencing section, tap on Arrival, and let the app locate you. Choose a setting and turn on the option if you want the lights to come on only if you come home after dark: you’ll avoid so that they turn on unnecessarily when you come home in the middle of the day.

Philips Hue: Overall Opinion

To conclude, Philips Hue is very easy to use and can significantly simplify the management of lighting in your home, allowing you to create pleasant lighting effects and also to save on your bill, if well used. However, you may prefer cheaper alternatives such as the colored light bulbs and, if you only need to turn the lights on and off at certain times, you just need a cheaper timer for electrical outlets. So, before buying a Philips hue starter kit, make a list of pros and cons and we are sure, you are going to be in favor.
